Leibniz: Philosophical Essays (Hackett Classics)

Leibniz wanted to explain God's existence and the Bible in understandable scientific terms and mostly succeeds. Although Voltaire took him to task in Candide, Leibniz's philosophical canon holds up well. The text succeeds, if you remember to consider it from the viewpoint of a clandestine polymath, instead of a dilettante.

I really enjoy the quality of this book. I bought it on a Friday, it shipped immediately Saturday and took perhaps just over a week to arrive. It's a must have for those getting introduced to Leibniz and must be the first thing picked up.

Very good academic book.

A lot of great ideas in this book, although I don't agree with many of what is in it. Leibniz was an original thinker to say the least, and some of his ideas are still important to this day.

I had no idea how sophisticated and sometimes plausible Leibniz was. He’s still bad, given he’s a modern philosopher, but he’s still not as scummy as the rest of those in his whole era and methodology (both Rationalist and Empiricist types). I’d like to add that the actual colour of the cover is more appealing than that on this product page. See the back cover picture here for reference.
