Password and Crash Fixes Also some tips.
I had Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 and it was great till it stopped playing nice with Windows 10. Magix took over and a lot of people have issues with them. Since I updated to Magix Movie Studio Suite, [platinum is hard to get now in that version]. The first thing on loading is that Magix saw that I had had Platinum on my computer and asked if I'd prefer that version. Since I consider it a leaner less bloated version I said yes.REGISTRATION: A lot of people have had difficulty registering their products in order to use them. Personally I lost my old Sony password long ago. One of the only ones I hadn't entered into a book. On trying to use the software a message popped up saying that my email was already in use and a password was required. LISTEN UP: So I simply went to MAGIX main site and found the Password section, entered my email and requested to change it. 10 seconds later I got a link and set up a NEW password. Next time I tried opening my Vegas Movie Studio, I entered my email and the new password. Bam! full access to the program. CRASHES: online there is a YouTube titled "How To Fix 99% of Sony Vegas Crashes and Freezes" by ProTutorials. Four simple changes in your preferences that make versions 14 - 17 much more stable. At least in my case. I believe the most important one is to select additional ram specifically to the application. It uses only 200mb for the preview window. I increased mine to 1000mb since I have ram to spare. As to the software, It can be finicky at times to work with, but the results once you burn a disc are beautiful. One particular feature is that it asks if you'd like to match media when importing files. I always say yes as it simplifies the workflow. You can always change how you render or output it. I do recommend Steve Grisetti's YouTube guides to using the program.UPDATE: Had my first crash during a render. The Sony encoders have been replaced by Magix encoders. There have been reports of conflicts with Nvidea cards. The option being to turn GPU acceleration off in preferences and render with the cpu. Quite frankly I'm not seeing a difference in render speed. I intend to turn on GPU acceleration after each Nvidia update in hopes that they address this in the future as a test. All of these "all in one" video editors are known to be twitchy. So you may have to try different things that work with your particular system. UPDATE: Since turning off GPU acceleration, any video jumps or stutters have disappeared. I've also increased the ram in preferences from 1000Mb to 1500mb [I have 16Gb of ram so there's plenty to spare unless you're running several programs at once]. I had some issues with sections of sound repeating about 20 seconds later after rendering the project. As a result I've learned to manually render my video and changed my sound render to the Sony Wave 64 driver and render it separately. Importing the video in DVD Architect automatically brings the audio render with it in sync. I've taken to making my Blu Rays manually rather than the "Make a Movie" preset as it allows me to select alternatives that work better for me, yet still match the original source settings.

Decent Product, bu HORRIBLE Customer Support - NONEXISTENT
I've had a previous version of Vegas before and it worked well, so I knew what to expect with the Movie Studio 16 product and it has met my expectations; however, the registration/activation for this product was screwed up from the start. When it prompted me for an email address (not sure why since I had the registration code) I entered one that I had used for the previous edition and it informed me that the email address was already registered and prompted me for another email address. ??? So I entered another email address that I used and it allowed me to register and activate the product, or so I thought. I created a project that took a couple of hours and when I went to render the finished product, the program would not allow me to continue because the email I entered didn't match the one that was on file. Again, ???? I tried contacting customer/tech support using the literature that came with the software and, guess what, no tech support telephone numbers in the instructions or on the box. So I went to their website and looked through their FAQ's and nothing even close was there and I assumed ultimately they'd provide a telephone number to call and explain to tech support. Nope. No telephone numbers are on their website. So I Googled the Magix support and after a few times going around in circles with the first website mentioned, I found a telephone number to Magix...305-722-5810 and called it only to find out that they only answer their phones between 12pm to 4pm M-F and I had missed them by a few minutes. The next day I called them at 12:10 pm to make sure they got their coffee and were ready to help callers and after the phone rang about 20 times, a prerecorded message stated they were all busy and to call back later, not wait, not leave a message and they'll call you back, nothing, nada, nil, zilch, zero. I tried calling them back right after that and the phone rang, rang, rang, and rang and never went to message or anything. Just rang. I ultimately uninstalled the software, then reinstalled it with the email address I thought they might have on file and was then able to use the software, but if you have a problem with installation or anything else with the product you can forget any customer support you might need because you're not going to get it. You've been warned!

Good value for the price.
If you’re running windows 7, after installing the program do not install the update, the program will stop working unless or until you upgrade your system to windows 10.

installing this procuct installs a program called Magix and its unmanageable pop-up ad
I haven' used the movie editing program yet but installing the software installs a Magix pop-up that really scares me. It appears very much to be trying to get me to download malware that purports to want to manage my computer for me to make it more efficient. If you Google it you will find that many many people hate it and can't get rid of it. It still comes back even after uninstalling it. If I had read the Google reviews I would not have bought the Vegas software.

If freezes up with the first key stroke.
I have versions 14 and 15 and have been very satisfied with the product, but beware of VEGAS Movie Studio 16 Suite. I have installed and uninstalled half a dozen times but I can’t get this product to work. I have been online for days trying the fixes that other users are posting. It keeps crashing with the message that the program is no longer responding. I bought it for a few features that it touted but if I can’t get the software running, the features are useless. I have been sending the crash information on to the product owner. Let’s hope that they pay attention to what we send in, and fix the software.

Less versatile
Movie Studio v.13 was a much better product, more intuitative and - I think - with as many if not more features. It doesn't, however, seem to like working with Windows 10 which is a shame. I will persevere and hope that it grows on me!!

Good software though not for newbies
I have SVM Pro 10 so I’m familiar with the GUI etc. However, product support has stopped for older versions. VMS 16 seems to be running well on my Windows 10 machine
