Travels With Boogie: 500 Mile Walkies and Boogie Up the River in One Volume

Having walked the South West Coast Path it was very interesting to compare the author’s experiences to our own. The book was recommended by a colleague as a humorous distraction from all the problems facing our society. Definitely amusing in parts if a little predictable.

A great read. Poor old Boogie. What a character. The second book along the Thames is a bit darker than the first, but still worth a look.

One of my favourite reads from decades ago. I found them hilarious so bought for my wife. I await the first giggle with eager anticipation, and a chance to reread them later myself.

My original review contained 2 extracts from the book to illustrate the point I was making that the book contains outdated references that some may find offensive. Ironically, Amazon blocked that review because 'it does not meet our guidelines for one or more of these reasons:ProfanityHarassmentHate speechSexual contentIllegal activityPrivate information.'So here's my review with the offending words asterixed. Surely ridiculous that the extracts are considered too controversial to include in a review but the book itself can be sold just fine.Only up to page 20 and already feeling a bit disappointed by some of the outdated comments/terminology/attitudes used in this book. Having really enjoyed Mark Wallington's Pennine Way book I ordered this one with alacrity. However, by page 20 there has already been a racial slur ('P*k*) and boasting of sexual harrassment and groping ('I'd try and corner girls, but after a couple of drinks, instead of trying to put hands up their jumpers, I'd wax lyrical about the rugged contours of Cornwall'.

I'd have eaten the bloody dog.

A wonderful innocent pleasure, this book. Having visited Cornwall in September this year for a week's camping and walking (with a friend and off-duty Guide Dog) I was recommended this book. Reading it bought back memories of the stunning Cornish coastline we enjoyed. I say "innocent pleasure" because Mark walked the SW Walk when there were no mobile phones or other means of keeping in touch; it was just him and Boogie. An absolute delight.
