Excellent, well-made auger bits - it really works!

These are very well made and sturdy. I used the smaller of the two sizes with a 20v DeWalt cordless drill, which is a very powerful drill. I used the bit to plant in tough North Texas soil, which is less like soil and more like rock-filled clay - the most difficult substance one can imagine to plant in, aside from concrete. This auger made the job easier, I was able to break up this impossible soil and remove the excess dirt with a shovel. It’s a nearly impossible job otherwise. I made three large holes to plant shrubs that came in 2 gallon buckets, so the holes were about 18” in diameter and maybe 14” deep, leaving plenty of room to add good soil around the new plants. One thing to note, when you hit rocks or roots or just tough sticky clay, the drill will kick back with considerable force, and I’ve got a sore shoulder and wrists from that. After a while you learn to be less aggressive with the drilling and take smaller bites to avoid injury. If your drill has a two-speed gearbox, use the lower, higher torque setting, especially in tough soils, but please use caution! In all, this is a great tool that makes the difficult job of digging in tough earth much easier.

Best purchase for my garden

This item is a game changer.I can only work in the yard for so long due to health issues, and this has allowed me to plant all the plants I over-bought.It breaks up the soil, it is amazing. We have solid clay in Georgia, and even if you dig a hole with a trowel, it leaves the side dirt hard, with this, just side wiggle it and you have beautifully tilled soil for your plant. I am so happy I saw a video talking about this product. It has returned to me, my diverse garden planting obsession.Love it.Even used it to drill into the clay to put the downspout drain hose....just the best purchase I've made in years for the garden.Highly recommend.I will issue one caution, if you are planting in an area with large roots, be careful. It will jerk your arm/shoulder if you get carried away, so use a bit of caution in rooted areas. Otherwise, it cuts down planting time by about 2/3s for me.

Performance

These augers worked pretty good but they didn’t cut through some small roots like I thought they would. I’m sure it would be great in just plain soil.Very easy to use with drill.

Good quality and performance so far

It's worked well so far for 4x4 or 6x6 fence post repairs where I need to get a good sized hole started with minimal tools. A post hole digger can optionally be used alongside this to make your life a bit easier getting residual dirt out of the hole. This makes much quicker work than a post hole digger alone does though and is easily worth the cost to me.I've ground up against rocks and even a large brick - the black coating rubs off but I was surprised to see how smoothly the metal resisted the scratching. It didn't dent or deform. The hex tip is also large and strong and hasn't worn or slipped yet. Just make sure you click the chuck tight around it and be gentle.Lastly, using these can be hard or even dangerous on your wrists, especially with 20V drills set to max torque (usually setting 2 on drill mode on your drill) so do be cautious of how you are holding this. It helps a lot to have some bracing or to brace the drill battery between your knees. If you can't do this, try to hold it in a way that will prevent it from bucking and twisting your wrist unexpectedly. Start at low torque and work your way up.

Great product! You need a strong drill!

Great product for its purpose. Even did well in some gravely areas, BUT you better have a strong drill otherwise it will be useless. Mines an older 24 volt and I was only able to dig about 4 holes in tough soil before the battery died. If you are doing a larger project be ready for that.

Works as advertised.

What is there to say about this product other than it does the job as advertised by the seller? I don’t use the larger of the auger bits because the small one is enough to bust up the hard clay dirt when I’m digging a hole to plant flowers and a lot of other plants. It’s effective at mixing up the garden soil with potting soil and other organic matter for a healthy garden. Plus, I don’t think that it’s a good idea to use the larger auger bit with the battery operated drill that I have now. I’m concerned that it might burn out the motor in the drill.

Works in rock-hard soil.

I bought some fruit trees that I needed to plant. The combination of hard clay soil and a bad shoulder injury really had me wondering if I was gonna be able to do it. I used the smaller auger to break up the dirt very easily. I had no problem at all using it even with my bad shoulder. Then I used the bigger one to make the hole a little bit larger. After that, it was easy to just shovel out the loose dirt. This is a must have for anyone who has clay soil.

Drill bits

This set is ok, I was looking for a bit that would be big enough for fence post. It was too small, but it did come in handy for my wife to plant flowers.
