Best hand sharpening solution that's out there.
This is the easiest way to get professional results. If you practice for years you can get the same results by using a stone, but if you want to do it by hand, this is the way to go. You can sharpen to utility sharp or "scary sharp"; you can pick the angle and so forth. The main key to knife sharpening is keeping the angle the same and using constant pressure. That's what this does for you - it keeps the angle locked on and makes it easy to apply constant pressure. It's not faster than other hand methods, but it doesn't need to be because the results are the result of constant angle and constant pressure which this gives perfectly.

This thing is OUTSTANDING!!!!
I am in my 50's now and have been hunting and fishing for over 40 years. I have always had to have my dad sharpen my knives because, no matter how hard I tried, I could never keep the angle the same on both sides. It was very frustrating to say the least. I have tried so many times with so many different wet stones, but I could never get the hang of it. When I saw this, I knew it was a game changer. The clamp locks the blade in place, and I adjusted the angle to 20 degrees and sharpened 10-12 knives over the weekend. None of them were in bad shape, just dull. Once I used this sharpener, I can shave with every one of my knives and unfortunately on the first 2 I cut myself not realizing just how sharp they had gotten. I highly recommend this product. The only knock I have is, I think there should be at least 1 or 2 more grits above 800 to really hone a hair splitting blade on your knife

Loosening Threads
I have owned the Work Sharp PPA sharpener for 5 months. When it works, it is easy to use and does a great job of sharpening all types of knives. I say "when it works" because I have experienced an ongoing problem with the threaded parts loosening. I have resorted to using medium strength thread locker to mitigate the problem and have had moderate success. The thread locker doesn't eliminate the problem, but it does increase the time between occurences. Stronger thread locker would probably fix the problem, but would probably result in my never being able to disassemble the sharpener to replace worn parts..The whole purpose of the sharpener is to keep the stone at a fixed angle relative to the blade. When the sharpener part threads loosen, the preset angle changes, resulting in an uneven apex on the blade being sharpened. This thread loosening is very gradual, so it is not detectable until the damage us done, resulting in the blade having to be reprofiled after the loose threads are retightened. This problem has never resulted in significant damage, but is very annoying and wastes time.

Great system
I just recieved the unit today so take this as a preliminary review. If I encounter any issues I will update. The sharpener is packaged in 2 boxes. 1 for the main unit and one for the stones, clamp support, small blade holder, etc. It is well organized and I recommend keeping the accessories box to hold your stones and small blade attachment. It came with all of the parts and grits listed. Assembly (if you can call it that) was very intuitive and only takes a minute or 2. Clear instructions are provided.I had been using a cheap sharpener that works similar to this in general, but the worksharp has so many more features that make sharpening much easier and more effective. When you're sharpening longer knive thaunit tilts back allowing you to turn it without clamping the blade. This is an incredibly important feature as it allows you to keep a consistent angle throughout the sharpening process. This feature is especially important for kitchen knives which tend to be longer than pocket knives. The other feature that I like is the rotating arm which which sets exactly the same when you rotate. There is no guessing or measuring required to stay consistent. The blade clamp has rubber pads so your knife isn't scratched. The clamp is very secure and uses a wheel that you turn to tighten it. There is a support piece that goes below the clap to keep it from moving up and down as you sharpen. I HIGHLY recommend you use it. It's not mandatory, but it will make your edges more consistent. Imo it's a must.Changing the angle is really simple. The unit has degrees clearly marked and you turn a wheel to raise and lower the angle. It also comes with an electronic angle finder which has a cut out on the bottom to fit on the round arm that holds your stone slider. This makes it so much easier to use than a standard flat bottom angle finder. Really nice touch. I bought a laser edge finder here on amazon just to further simplify my life. If you want one just search for it here under laser edge finder. It was only 30 bucks and pretty simple way to find your edge angles accurately. To test the device I decided to use it on one of my Olde Forge carbon steel knives that was completely dull. I reprofiled the knife completely to 17 degrees. I started with the 220 grit plate and worked all the way up to 800, then the ceramic stone followed by the strip. The diamond stones are high quality and setting the initial edge angle took only a few minutes. I worked eeach side forming a burr before moving to a higher grit. If you are new to sharpening I must tell you that forming a burr is essential. I highly recommend you watch some videos on the subject before sharpening. I won't bore you with the entire process. I'll just say that one of the things that I appreciated was how easy it was to change the plates with the magnetic system. It's much easier than springs and clamps. The strip itself came preloaded with green compound that was very evenly distributed. I liked it a lot. After stropping was finished I had a very sharp knife easily capable of shaving arm hair. The edge is not a true mirror polish, but it's nice and shiney. This brings me to the next pointWhat I wish was available from the company is higher grit stones. You can get a really nice edge with the 800 but you'll need more for a mirror polish if that's your thing. After market plates are out there however. Overall I'm really pleased with the product.

No regrets
I spent almost a year not sure which knife sharpener I'd buy. This was always in the running but it was also the most expensive. Finally pulled the trigger on it a month ago. I love it. Works great. Would be nice if it came with a case, but not a big deal.

Take your time and watch instructional videos on you tube.
Don’t expect to just sharpen your knives, go to YouTube and watch the tutorials for worksharp precision knives. It’s okay guys to watch instructional tutorials don’t take your man card away. I’m 67 years old. I’ve always used a whetstone and leather strops. This sharpener really puts a precise edge to your knives. I don’t think I have a knife at the house that’s not sharp now.
