Use only Apple connector for trouble free use!
A bit expensive but works flawlessly. I use this for streaming to the TV and for presentation via the HDMI port and it works great. Plus you can hook up a charger to keep from worrying about the battery life.

Multiport adapter
It's the original part, there are cheaper products but this one was a 10 USD discount and is the genuine part which gives me peace of mind, I prefer spending more on the original which will last longer than a cheap product.

Wish I found this sooner
Works good. Must use an Apple fast charger or you cannot charge while using. Input delay is minimal and does not drop at all. This is a great device if you want to connect to an older tv.

Why doesn't it charge devices?
This thing has about 1/3 the capability of the Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1) adapter and costs almost 3x as much. It will not charge your devices even if you have a USB-C cable connecting a power adapter to the Apple AV adapter's USB-C port. It will not charge your devices connected to its USB-C port. The USB-C port 's only functionality is connecting things like storage devices or accessories. The Anker adapter has 2 USB-C ports instead of one (one of which is for PD power delivery to the device into which it is plugged and the other for connecting/charging other devices). The Anker adapter has 2 USB-A ports instead of Apple's one, and like this Apple adapter, the one from Anker has a HDMI port. It's really really weird that Apple hasn't released an updated version of the Multiport adapter. The fact that it costs 3x as much is predictable enough, but the fact that it barely works is just disgraceful.
