Different--A Great Thing to Be!

Great book. Love the story and illustrations

Not just for kids who are neurodivergent not to teach all kids that being different is beautiful

This book was a great jumping off point for a discussion about how everybody is different and that that's okay. I read it because kids were making up fun of each other in class and I wanted to point out that just because we're different doesn't mean we can't play together and be friends.

This is a book that every parent and educator needs to have on their bookshelf! What I love most about this book (besides the beautiful rhyming phrases and mesmerizing illustrations) is the resounding message that starts from the moment you read the title: DIfFeReNt is a GREAT thing to be!So often in the disability community we hear the phrase, “More alike than different.” As a parent to two children with disabilities, I can understand and appreciate this sentiment to a point. Of course, my kids need many of the same things other kids do: love, acceptance, and a sense of belonging just to name a few. But what this phrase ALSO insinuates, is that being the SAME is preferred over being different. It makes different seem like a bad thing.NOT THIS BOOK!This is a message that every child (and adult!) needs to hear. Thank you, Heather for putting this book out into the world so that we may all benefit! With the help of this book, kids can learn to embrace and love what makes them different. Which is a GREAT thing to be!

I took this book into a first grade classroom to read it out loud. I'm am in a wheelchair and this book opened up for discussion about disabilities, and how Being in a wheel chair is a little different but I still have abilities just like the class does.

I purchased this for my daughter to help her accept her differences and also to help her classmates understand her. They all loved it.

I think every family should read this with their kids.

I bought two of these books. They are AMAZING, and Heather did a great job! I read one out loud to my uncle who had a stroke and I got teary eyed reading it! I will be purchasing her other book quickly! If you have littles in your life, you NEED THIS BOOK!!
