I loved-loved “The Monk and the Butterfly” and Kai's mesmerizing writing style. The turning of each page had me focused and relaxed with a sense of calm. This was the first of his books I have read and immediately downloaded “The Zen Mirror”. Thank Kai !!

The Monkey and the Butterfly is a beautiful collection of enlightening Zen stories. Each story changes our ingrained perspectives, allowing new ways of seeing things to arise.

As the headline here says, these are more or less several fables for illustrating Buddhist principles of mindfulness, patience, and impermanence. It includes the story made famous in the West by the film, Charlie Wilson's War, of the farmer who's horse escapes, setting off a series of ups and downs for the farmer and his family that shows a universe constantly in transition. The book works well as both an educational text and an entertaining short story collection.

The stories and drawings were all beautiful. I enjoyed the introductions to each new topic, as well as the summary at the end. It's very well written, easy to understand and inspiring.

I am enjoying reading these stories and will definitely come back and reread them in the future. Just what I was expecting. To me it was worth the price even considering all books have gone up in cost.

The Monk and the Butterfly opens one's mind to a "different way of looking at the world." It is joyful reading, and offers a way of seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. I plan to offer this book to my friends as a gift of love.
