Great product does what it says

I decided to leave my review for a while but it is now a year since I used this product. It has absolutely surpassed all expectations.Easy to use and it brought what was my cream (beigey) looking sofas back to their original colour and lustre. After a whole year scratches and scuffs still covered and it has not cracked or faded. My sofas live in a very hospitable home with lots of visitors and they have lasted brilliantly. One large bottle did both 2 seater sofas with a tiny bit to spare!100 % recommendation from me, great product and fantastic value!

Brilliant but take your time

I used this to change a bar stool from White to Tan. You do need to use a sponge and dab it on rather than wipe it on. If you can be patient and go slowly you will get a good even colour. 2 coats is looking good but I'll probably do a third coat. I'm very happy with it.

Good product but I've used better

This product is good value. It does several jobs in one. It's easy to apply and leaves a deep black finish, but I have used other products that have a slightly better finish. I used it to refresh boots and saddles, there was no need for a top coat and the dye did not transfer.

Leather dye

Very pleased with result, requires careful preparation beforehand as had been said previously

Very temporary solution

The colour was a little too red for the leather colour I have, but seemed the closest match. Initially thought not bad, went on easily with a cloth, some arras you could see where i had done it. When I washed my hands I realised there was no dye as it peeled off my hands like acrylic paint. I wouldn't be surprised if watered down acrylic paint would give the same affect! Fabric dye takes ages to get off your hands. Needless to say Im back where I started. Shoe polish gave a better colour match and without the streaks but both just sit on the top of the leather and wear off.

Does the job splendidly

Great quality coverage . I had two large leather chairs ( previously beige then painted two yrs ago with grey but after my dogs had battered them they needed a refresh I chose a dark blue . It goes on easily I applied with a washing up sponge ( without scourer ) thin layers. The dry time was very quick but I did apply in the garden on a hot day , it’s slow progress but I then used a brush (large artist acrylic brush ) this was much easier and quicker ! I did not get any brush strokes , not sure if that was because I used a dark blue ( and it is very dark , but that’s ok I loved it ) it was also needed to get in the nooks and crannies. Bear in mind it drys quite sticky so can stick the cushion to the arm of the chair ( I found out after it dried ) so I will need a few touch ups ( no biggi ) I suggest if doing a whole chair / sofa with attached cushion leave the sides ( where cushion meets arms until last then either sit on it until it drys or try and weight it so it doesn’t stick. I bought a large bottle as I needed to cover 2 large chairs front and back although I still have enough to another two chairs ! So it would probably cover an average three piece or a five seater modular . Durability seems good it’s been over two weeks and I have four dogs on and off it all day and night and haven’t seen any change so far , so with normal use it would not have any issues at all. Good solution to my tatty chairs 🥳

What you should know for your first project :)

I've used TLC products on a good few items over time, and they're very good provided you abide by a few rules, so I thought I'd pop up a review so you get things right and you're not disappointed. If you're not keen on essays, keep scrolling :D but it might help a few first-timers.Prep work is literally your priority - before you even open the bottle. If you attempt to use any dye product, including this, on a surface that has even a trace of oil from your fingers, dust, dirt, left over residue from a cleaning product...it's going to result in problems from patchy cover, peeling and rubbing off. Cleaning the surface does not mean wiping it clean. It means going in with a toothbrush if you have to and scrubbing every square inch clean with a degreasing cleaner. When it's dry, hoover it....and then hoover it again. After that, you absolutely have to use a product that completely removes residue, especially oils - treat the leather in exactly the opposite way to how you know to care for it; i.e. you want it as dry as possible. It'll make you scream but I actually use nail varnish remover sometimes (which is just awful to do but the reality is most of my items are pretty destroyed if I need to dye them). Alcohol based cleaners evaporate as you wipe them over and leave the surface porous and dry - perfect for soaking up a product such as a dye. So remember - cleaning is not enough. If you slap a dye on without degreasing it, hoovering it manically and using an alcohol based product last, then you're going to be disappointed. The dye will just rub off - in days rather than weeks. When you're applying the dye, you'll need 4 coats minimum if you're drastically changing colour. Apply it evenly and don't try and get full coverage on the first application. Leave it for at least 4-6 hours between coats regardless of how quickly it appears to dry. Don't touch it, don't touch up areas, make sure it's not being used or subject to dust flying around.Once you're satisfied with the coverage on your last coat LEAVE IT ALONE for 24 hours!! But the single most important thing is that you seal it. It doesn't matter if a dye has a sealant within it...you're going to need a topcoat. Don't expect this dye to stay in place without purchasing a sealant also. This brand has a decent quality one so if you're reading this review and thinking of purchasing - search for TLC leather dye sealant also and pick up a bottle along with it.Sealing is the same process as dying; 4 coats minimum, 4-6 hours between coats regardless of whether it looks as though it's dried within 2. Once you've a satisfactory coating LEAVE IT ALONE for 24 hours!!Hope that helps you - if you're obsessive with your prepwork, you'll have a really good quality coverage that'll last. If you don't, your item will begin to peel, the product will rub away and you'll be left with disaster.Good luck!!! :D
